Tabula Rasa

A little slot in the vast cyberspace to start from a clean slate. Learn to crawl, walk, run and fly... to laugh, cry, whine and shout about anything and everything under the sky :)

LM Q306:- I Hear Maddy Everywhere.....

19th Aug 2006 - Les Mills Quarter 3 Workshop.

BodyCombat kicked off the morning with a bang. Great seeing Ben and Renee on stage, good chemistry between them. This release will certainly test your endurance to the max! Loved the music as well, Paffendorf's Be Cool meets Madonna's Vogue! awesome!! The push up, as Ben said, is a fabulous chest enhancer. Ouch!

BodyJam... kicked A** HOT HOT HOT!! Go loco with the latin moves. Ran Kan Kan sets the floor ablaze with latino groove. Mucha Caliente!!!! It's like a fiesta in the studio! Arnold and Melissa were fantastic! The Comtempory Club... it's unique, it's challenging, it's simply incredible! Danny and I were victims of "She-With-Whips-For-Hair".... whenever there're spins, we'd both recoiled with fear... :p I really liked the music in this release :) for a moment I heard Hung Up mash with MJ/PM's Say Say Say.... I could be wrong...

BodyBalance..... I kept my composure! 2 releases in a row! an acheivement! :p BodyBalance is a very personal programme. It has the ability to open the floodgates of my eyes. Hey! I'm a sensitive guy!!! :p Another top notch release, soothing and matching music with the choreo. Perfect way to end the day.

Been To Loo and Splitted Toenails

This will be an ultra brief update, leaving for a meeting in 10 min! My inauguaral trip to Bintulu was as exciting as watching paint dry. It's a last minute work trip, here to evaluate potential new business. A fellow colleague and I decided to check out the new shopping arcade nearby and our tour of the entire shopping departments took less than 20 min :p

The night was spent reviewing documents and downloading mails from the office. Took bloody 2 hours to download 6 miserable emails (normal sized). Decided to sleep early and I just had to kick the cabinet right before I zzz. The result... split toe nails. Stopped the bleeding then went off to bed. Hope I'm ok for classes this weekend.

Snapshot of the week

Been a busy, hadn't had time to update the blog as frequently as I'd hope to. Another crazy week ahead! Anyway, here's a quick overview of the last week.

Had a Team Building and brainstorming session in Bukit Tinggi middle of last week. Achieved the objectives set up and yours sincerely is also accountable for delivering the finished product by mid this week! Stress!! Being an absent minded fellow that I am, I forgot my toothbrush, the sundry shop had nothing left but the cute little one below… couldn’t stop laughing while I brushed my teeth later that night :p I personally like the bunny rabbit print :p

Will be going off for a meeting on Wed in Bintulu, back in good old KL on Thurs. Let’s hope I can make it on time to the theme class in Maxis J what will FCI and his team wear?

Couldn’t make it to my Sat Combat at the Curve, had to cover a Bollywood Class in Manulife. Power-Peggy replaced me, members had fun in her class! Way to go!! J
Now Sat night was great! Fantastic company, a cornucopia of Arabian feast and a workout!! Check out FBB’s blog on the wonderful Arabian Night! Someone also commented on my outfit… whether I was in partial drag :p my shirt pocket + the parking ticket made it looked as if I’m wearing a bra. Which brings me to a topic of discussion recently about abundance of estrogen in the air (esp in the class) and whether inhaling it would lead to development of mammary glands :p

Felt ill this morning when I got up, call in sick for half a day. Mom made me my favourite porridge (dried Scallops, Dried Shrimps, Chic Stock and Tung Choi). Yum!

Heading off to dreamland soon, chilling out a little after the back-to-back Jam-Combat in Consplant. Pretty good crowd of 40+ for the 8.45pm Jam and 28+ for the 9.45pm Combat.

Bangers and Bubbly

Had an excellent Gym Session on Sat at the Curve, started with Pump. Riyo had us work hard! The Smooth Criminal chest track was a killer with no breaks in between and I had to choose that day to increase the weight. Should have taken the cue and maintained my normal weights…but no! gung ho! Increased the biceps weight (don’t want to be booed ma! Tale for another time) , we will rock you indeed. I was crying out for mama half way through! :p yup.. I know I’m a BodyPump weakling!

Next was NRSW Bollywood, shadowed Riyo together with Ken. It was a blast! Made a few boo-boo though, confused with my left and right when I switch from members side to mirror image… brain fart! As usual great workout, legs were like jelly by the end of it.

Then came my Combat Class, never seen the class so packed! More than 68pax! Could it be the pimping? :p hehehe. Fantastic energy from the members! You guys totally rock! Let’s do it again in 2 weeks time, can make it to class next Sat. Will be covering Bollywood class in Manulife. The following Sat is the quarterly workshop for instructors.

Sat evening was spent vegeing out with friends and an early night.
Had a lovely Sunday brunch with another friend at Jarrod and Rawlins. Eggs, Sausages, Bacon, Bread, OJ, Wines and Champagne :p hic! I can get use to that! Got home and crashed out till late evening. Got up for a quick bite and retired soon after…was aching from the workout on Sat. Needed to rest for the back-to-back Jam-Combat class in Cosplant on Monday.

Me Gustas Cuando Callas - Pablo Neruda

I Like It When You're Quiet-Pablo Neruda
I like it when you're quiet, It's as is you weren't here now,
and you heard me froma distance, and my voice couldn't reach you.
It's as if your eyes had flown away from you, and as if your mouth were closed because I leaned to kiss you.

Just as all living things are filled with my soul,
You emerge from all living things filled with the soul of me.
It's as if, a butterfly in dreams, you were my soul,
and as if you were the soul's word, melancholy.

I like it when you are quiet. It's as if you'd gone away now.
And you'd become the keening, the butterfly's insistence.
And you heard me from a distance and my voice didn't reach you:
it's then that what I want is to be quiet with your silence.

It's then that what I want is to speak to your silence
in a speech as clear as lamplight, as plain as a gold ring.
You are quiet like the night, and like the night you're star-lit.
Your silences are star-like, they're a distant and a simple thing.

I like it when you're quiet. It's as if you weren't here now.
Aws if you were dead now, and sorrowful, and distant.
A word then is sufficient, or a smile, to make me happy,
Happy that it seems so certain that you're present.

Picked up my Neruda collection, randomly flipped to a page and this is what I got. Love the bittersweetness of it :)

Pablo Neruda (1904-1973) is widely considered one of the greatest poets of the 20th century. His funeral is also a key moment in Chilean history. It marks the first public protest against Pinochet's dictatorship.

Now, some may ask how did I come across Neruda? Am I a being fan of poetry? nope. The truth is a lot simpler.... Did a search for Nobel laurette who died in the year that I was born in and his name was one of the many that popped up ( i was that bored back then...) The next day I popped into Kinokuniya to get a collection of his poems. Interesting and some are intense... wish I know Spanish. Would love to be able to appreciate the beauty of his poems in its original form. no matter how well it's translated, a lot of the essence would have been lost. That basically applies to so many other work of art/entertainment. An obvious one is foreign movies.

A recent topic in the Fitness Fever forum mentioned favourite movie. There are countless movies that I adore and it's impossible to name just one. There are however a few that I'd always have a soft spot for.... Cinema Paradiso and Ill Postino. If I can speak and understand Italian, I'm certain I'd love them even more and would have suffer severe dehydration..... from excessive sobbing :p

Salaam Namaste!

NIKE ROCKSTAR WORKOUT (NRSW) BOLLYWOOD launched! Had an awesome time last night launching the programme with Juwita and Leo! The two ladies are amazing! Couldn't have survived without them! :)

NRSW Bollywood choreo is mainly Hip-hop/funk/R&B infused with authentic female indian dance moves. The workout is intensive when done properly, couple that with the catchy music... absolutely fantastic!

Had to move out from the comfort zone when I first went for training. Training for trainers was intensive and prepared us well to teach the classes. Had to drill loads to get it right (still working on it to get it perfect!), dancing is not my forte, it's something I need to practise hard on. I'm more comfortable with the instruction bit :)

Getting the indian flavour right requires some understanding of the whole Bollywood culture. Didn't have time to research much so ASTRO it was... Bollywood films! and some basic reading on indian classical dance helped a little. Stable core, strong legs, versatile arm lines (sharp and gentle depending on the choreo) and a lot of facial expression. Add those on top of the quintessential choreo of the programme.... hard work! but well worth it when you see the joy of the members. The energy one gets when members smile! shout! scream! holler in class is indescribable! For a moment everyone is connected and that's amazing!

Looking forward to the next 5 weeks of more NRSW Bollywood fun! (the programme will last for 6 weeks only!)

Debut

Finally got my act together to put up a blog...... That line took me 10 minutes to compose. It's really annoying how you have so much to say but when trying to put in down on paper.... The 5 lanes highway in your mind suddenly transformed into a muddy trunk road. When you take a look behind, all you see a just pure catastrophe; chaotic, anarchic, profanities abound everywhere.... Well you get the picture.

So Tabula Rasa it is... a clean slate, that's where I'll start. This blog will grow and evolve slowly from the various experiences and sensory (cyber ones la!) perceptions of the world.
